Florida lost Ekblad to a nasty injury last night. Detroit, at the very least, could help offer cap space for them to do a major defensive upgrade. they should look to Carolina, Hamilton may not re sign if Waddell tries to go super cheap. Having Detroit eat some salary could help

As crazy as it sounds, Detroit may have been competing for that #4 playoff seed if Bertuzzi were healthy and the team didn't get ravaged with covid at the beginning of the season. Currently we're 9 points behind Chicago. Just saying.

Why does it always seem like each trade deadline the players we want to trade are injured? Jimmy Howard and Mike Green come to mind. Bobby Ryan? Injured. Bernier? Injured. We're still 2 weeks away from the trade deadline. Let's hope Yzerman has some healthy players to trade.

I laugh at Kenny Holland believing he can get Glenny for a 4th round pick. No thanks, Ken. I think he's worth a 3rd. It's not Stevie's fault you traded so many picks away. Andreas Athanasiou says hi.

Right on cue, Bobby Ryan is injured. This guy gets injured more often than Evil Knievel does. He should get a 3rd in return. Cheap cap hit. Maybe a 2nd if the demand is there. I believe he'd thrive with any playoff contender. There's still some tread left on his tires.

Jonathan Bernier likely would've gotten a 3rd in return but I don't know when or if he's returning. We keep hearing Marc Staal's name thrown around but even at 50% retained can Stevie really trade him? For what, a 5th? Philly maybe? Boston? Chicago?

Nemeth should get some interest. A 4th is what I'm expecting but maybe a 3rd if there's some demand. Yzerman can retain money on a maximum of 3 contracts. I expect him to do this. Merrill should get some interest. A 5th maybe?

I'm not sure Helm or Filppula can be moved. Helm at 50% retained would still be a 1.9 mil Cap hit. Filly Poola has next to no value in my opinion. I think playoff teams would sooner play a younger prospect over a washed up has been.

Difference maker Sam Gagner could get us a 4th maybe. 5th is more likely. I'm not expecting Yzerman to get any quality prospects for our rentals. A Mantha trade would have to happen in the summer and only if it's an overpay. Mantha is cost controlled for 3 more years. Teams may inquire but this isn't Stevie's bargain autos. If you won't pay the price then kick rocks. We'll keep Mantha thanks.

Helm will be on prorated, so actually salary is about 1/3 (about 1.4 million and Yzerman can retain 700k). It’s such a weird calculation, but it makes those guys look a lot more important. Agreed, I’m not ditching Mantha unless it’s too good to say no. I think Ryan is Day to day, he stepped on the ice today but got right off. So he’s close. Bernier, who knows...

no chance jost is being moved; he was largely criticized over the years for being drafted as high as he was but never showed all that “offensive potential” at the NHL level.

this year he has found his true role; bonafide monster penalty killer, a guy with lots of speed to energize either the third or fourth line - wherever he’s slotted in (usually third line).

before bernier went down, picking him up from you guys was something everyone around the avs organization thought was in the works. there are all sorts of rumors of the avs bringing in a pending UFA complementary forward or even 6/7th dman but we need an nhl calibre goalie to be there and give grubauer some damn rest more than anything else.

I look at Fla and think: "Is there any way Stevie could get Spencer Knight?"
I think it would have to involve Mantha. FLA will be obsessed with getting a RD to help with Ekblad's loss. They were looking for D depth before Ekblad went down.

As for Knight, I realize Petro has had a great season.....but Spencer Freaking Knight!!

Fla will have Ekblad's LTIR to gain a D-man for this season. So I think they will be after Savard. But if they are looking for more cap space, they would have to deal Stralman and/or Connelly. Would Stevie take Connelly and his cap hit for 2 more years if Knight was the sweetener??

I'd love for Yzerman to acquire Spencer Knight. But I'd have a better chance of air conditioning hell than this ever happening.

Thanks for dropping in! My thoughts on Jost were in part due to his contract expiring. Bernier, I hope, should be good to go soon. I also wondered about Glendening and/or Staal as inexpensive depth for the Avs. I really appreciate your input.

If Yzerman found a way to get Knight, I’d send 2 dozen roses and sign off as Gergeswillems on the card. That would be epic

Maybe Mantha for Connelly ($1M retained) Spencer Knight and a 2nd and 3rd.
Essentially you are getting Knight and a 3rd for Mantha. FLA would not do a deal unless it gives them cap space as well.

I'd do it but I doubt Florida would. Mantha's stock is very low right now.

I’m dead serious about those roses G. If he pulls it off, get ready for some Yzer-love!

Yzerman somehow convinced Marc Bergevin to trade him Sergachev for Drouin. So I suppose anything is possible.

Ghost is on waivers. Does Stevie claim him? I'm on the fence. Great rookie season. But he's been so awful the past 2 seasons.

I'm disappointed Smith hasn't played more games this season.

Yeah I just saw that Ghost was on waivers. Hmmmmmm. Wings need a LD and they have the space. I say go for it as long as he is healthy. Not much in FA this summer for LD. I think someone claims him, even to flip him for any pick would be worth it!

We'll need a few bodies after Stevie's deadline purge. On Ghost has 2 more years left at 4.5 mil AAV.

Both Ghost and Nick Holden (Vegas) on waivers today and my initial reaction is that I would be okay if we claimed either. Maybe even more so Holden than Ghost since he's only got one year left instead of two.

Holden always gets a job but teams never keep him. We could do worse. Stevie needs spot fillers until our prospects are ready. We'll add Seider next season. Likely Lindstrom. But Nemeth, Merrill and Staal will be gone. DD can't be trusted to stay healthy.

I wish! I only see Ryan, Glenny and maybe Nemeth being moved. Bernier's recent injury may not see him moved, that and Stevie still needs a decent goalie to finish the season. I would rather Stevie sign Bernier for a year and expose Greiss at the ex draft.

Holden is for sure a spot filler but he at least seems to be a good spot filler. I don't know that he could handle much more than a third-pairing job but he has historically been dependable in the role over the last handful of years.

I wonder who Philly is targeting for defense once Ghost is gone?
